Jane Whaley
Editor in Chief

A geologist with 30 years experience in the oil industry, ranging from high resolution seismic surveys to technical studies with IHS, Jane has been involved with GEO ExPro Magazine since 2005. Previously Associate Editor, Europe and Africa, she has been Editor in Chief since 2010.


Kirsti Karlsson
Marketing and Sales Manager

Educated as a teacher, Kirsti was co-founder of GEO ExPro and has been Marketing and Sales Manager for the magazine since it was launched.



Halfdan Carstens
Associate Editor, North West Europe

Halfdan obtained a M.Sc. in Geology from the University of Oslo and then worked for Saga Petroleim for five years including a year in the US. He also worked for Nopec and PGS, before becoming Founding Editor of GEO ExPro Magazine. He is Editor of the Norwegian geological magazine GEO.


Thomas Smith
Contributing Editor, The Americas

Tom grew up in a small, eastern Oregon town learning about rocks and nature, before graduating from Oregon State University with a M.S. degree in geology. He took a job with Union Oil Company in Alaska, and spent the next 24 years in the State. He now lives in the mountains of Idaho and enjoys skiing, hiking, fishing, travelling and writing.


Rasoul Sorkhabi
Contributing Editor, Asia/ Middle East

Rasoul is a research professor at the University of Utah’s Energy & Geoscience Institute in Salt Lake City. He previously worked for Japan National Oil Corporation and Arizona State University. A native of Iran, he is a multi-linguist and has lived in the USA, Japan, and India. Widely traveled and published, he is co-editor of Himalaya to Tibet: Mountain Roots to Mountain Tops (GSA, 1999), Faults, Fluid Flow and Petroleum Traps (AAPG, 2005),and a number of other publications.


Paul Wood
Contributing Editor

Paul Wood worked for 35 years with Shell International in various parts of the world, mainly in geophysical operations (seismic data acquisition, processing and interpretation). He was also involved in technical writing, publishing and external affairs. Now retired from Shell, he is a freelance technical writer and editor.
